Tax Season is already upon us! The IRS has announced that e-filing for personal returns will start on January 29th this year. This is about a week later than usual. There's no indication on the reasoning for it. Although there is speculation that it's being pushed back because there are possible 2023 tax code updates that Congress might pass. I'm not sure I believe that, but I am on board with e-filing opening up closer to the deadline of receiving tax documents. That makes more sense to me. More than a few times, I've had clients in a rush to file as soon as e-filing opens and then, lo and behold, a week later, they get another tax document they forgot about - usually a W-2 for a job they forgot about because it was at the beginning of the year - and we need to amend. Much like when the IRS adjusted deadlines for filing partnerships and S-corporations to be more logical, I appreciate this change.
